Cracker Basket

Cracker Basket a small rectanular basket hand woven of brown ash (black ash) by Stephen Zeh, Basketmaker of Temple, Maine.

This small rectangular basket is hand crafted of fine brown ash splint with a pair of hand carved end handles. Its size is just right to serve a stack of crackers or small cookies. Many, though, choose to simply display it to enjoy the beauty of its long rectangular shape. It is wonderful to display at the holidays with greenery, berries, and small pine cones.

It also makes a nice display with other miniatures. It is large enough to provide a visual frame for them but small enough so that it doesn't overwhelm tiny works of art.

This basket is also a great complement to the Writer's and Letter Trays. It is a perfect size to hold pens and pencils for writers and artists.

Artist's Notes:

The Cracker Basket was originally made for a woman who came to visit my studio many years ago to see if I could make a basket that would hold a stack of ginger snaps. I decided on this shallow rectangular design. Several years later she came back to request that I make another one for her. For many years these were the only two of this design I had ever made.

I use one of these baskets to hold a variety of pencils, conte crayon, and erasers. It is a perfect size to hold them and it goes along with me to the fields and woods for sketching.
