Garden Baskets

Spring daffodils in Tammy's garden. The summer garden. Iris Herb and Flower Tray with peonies. Hand crafted by Stephen Zeh Maine basketmaker.

Garden Baskets

The Garden Baskets are hand crafted in the style of the traditional Maine baskets I began making over thirty years ago. These are ones we use in our gardens every day.

They are a practical and sturdy basket. Of the very highest quality of craftsmanship and selection of the materials, these garden baskets are built to last for years of real use.

Mushroom Basket

The Harvest Basket is just the right size to take to the garden for a selection of greens and all the fixings for lunch or dinner. Later in the summer we will take one to the woods to gather black trumpet chanterelles. In the fall we use the harvest basket for harvesting fruit in the orchard.

The Harvest Basket is a traditional square bottom to round top basket. It is hand crafted with either a smooth hand-scraped finsh or the natural textured brown ash splint and has hand split and carved rims and handle with old fashioned cut copper clench nails.

Tomato Basket - this is a square bottom to square top basket. The brown ash splint has the natural texture. The rims are hand split and carved with cut copper clench nails. This basket is hand woven of brown ash (black ash) by Stephen Zeh, Maine basket maker.

Tomato / Pie Basket

The Tomato Basket is designed to hold a nice picking of fresh vine ripened garden tomatoes. The broad square shape lets tomatoes and delicate fruits lay in shallow layers to keep them from bruising.

And this is a great pie carrier. Tammy uses one for a pie basket, taking her home-baked apple pies to family picnics or to share with neighbors.

The hand split and carved rims and handle with cut copper clench nails contrast nicely with the texture of the brown ash splint or it is available in the smooth hand-scraped finish.

It is a wonderful market basket, a perfect size for trips to farmer's market and the grocery store.

When the raspberries are ripe we can't resist venturing to the bear trodden paths of the raspberry thickets in the Maine woods. These are great little baskets to gather berries for breakfast cereal, shortcake, or jellies and jams.

The Berry Baskets will find a place for a host of uses in the home or garden. A basket is a nice way to organize a dresser top or vanity. With a liner they are a wonderful to display flowering plants.

Oval Bread Basket

Blueberry scones, piping hot, are one of the many delights that await the owner of this Stephen Zeh Bread Basket.

A basket with a warming cloth is just the thing to hold baked goods fresh out of the oven.

This Oval Bread Basket is a simple yet pleasing design. I use a wide weave to give the basket a warm, homey feel. The natural splint texture of the weavers, set off by the hand carved brown ash rims, adds to the beauty of the basket. With daily use the Bread Basket will develop a rich patina and become even more beautiful with age.

The Oval Bread Basket is also a wonderful basket to use on the table and in the kitchen to ripen and display fruits and vegetables.
